The following document contains installation instructions for TeX Live when using a Linux distribution. It was tested with TeX Live 2012 on Fedora Linux.

Of course, use this instruction list carefully, knowing what you enter.

  • su
    (1)   Password: (Enter password)
  • cd Desktop
  • mkdir texlive
  • cd texlive
  • wget http://mirror.ctan.org/systems/texlive/tlnet/install-tl-unx.tar.gz
  • tar xf install-tl-unx.tar.gz
  • cd install-tl-20130105 (or a newer version)
  • ./install-tl
  • O
  • L
  • Choose the following:
    (1)   New value for binary directory [/usr/local/bin]: /usr/bin
    (Type /usr/bin.)
    (2)   New value for man directory [/usr/man]:
    (Do not type anything.)
    (3)   New value for info directory [/usr/info]:
    (Do not type anything.)
  • R
  • I
  • Let it download and install the packages. (When this is done, TeX Live is installed.)
  • Remove the temporary directory:
    (1)   rm -rf /home/username/Desktop/texlive

Update TeX Live via the following command:

  • su
    (1)   Password: (Enter password)
  • tlmgr update ––all ––self
